When did you last get a facial?

It is recommended to get a facial at least every 4-6 weeks. It is a skin care treatment that includes steam, exfoliation, extraction, creams, lotions, facial masks, peels, and massage. Facial treatment is a process that lasts for an hour and with rates ranging anywhere from $65 to $100.

If you don’t have the time, or the budget, to get a professional facial treatment done, here’s a six-step DIY facial treatment that you can do at home.

STEP 1: Cleanse

The first phase to a proper facial treatment is to cleanse. Cleansing removes oil, dirt, and makeup. Cleansing also allows all other products to penetrate deep into the skin.Don’t just jet through the cleansing process. Allow at least three minutes performing this step. Start by rinsing with lukewarm water. Apply a pea-sized amount of cleanser that’s suitable for your skin. I use PURAO Pure Cleanser because it’s made from New Zealand manuka honey, which is famous for its skin healing properties particularly antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Work the cleanser on your skin by massaging upward in circular motions using your middle and ring fingers. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. Repeat this step if you are wearing heavy makeup.

STEP 2: Exfoliate

The next step is to exfoliate. The process of exfoliation creates a healthier and smoother appearance as it helps even out your skin tone and refine the look of your pores. To exfoliate, use your preferred facial scrub. Massage it on your skin for about two minutes with light pressure.

STEP 3: Steam

Steam opens the pores. In a spa, you have a machine but at home, simply bring a pot of water to a boil, drape a towel over your head and slowly lean your face over the steam. Be careful not to get too close!

You can add essential oils to your steam if you want to. Steam for 10-15 minutes, with breaks in between.

STEP 4: Treatment Mask

The treatment mask is the heart of a facial. To ensure that your skin is ready to receive all nutrients from your skin care products, put on the treatment mask only after cleansing, exfoliation and steaming.

I recommend PURAO manuka honey for all skin types. Lightly wet the skin for the easier application of manuka honey. A tablespoon would be enough to spread to the whole face.

Leave manuka honey facial mask on for about 15 to 20 minutes to enable the antibacterial effects. Wash your face with lukewarm water and pat dry.

STEP 5: Tone

Mist your face with your favorite toner, let it dry and then apply your serum.

STEP 6: Moisturize

If you used PURAO manuka honey as your treatment mask, you would not need to moisturize. However, you have the option to add another layer of massage deeply into the skin for at least two minutes.

Facial massage is a great technique to relieve tension, tone and lift the skin’s appearance and drive all the goodness of your skin care products deeper into the skin’s layers.

Taking care of your skin should not drill a hole in your pocket. Add this DIY and budget-friendly facial treatment using the manuka honey to your monthly skin regiment.
